The Chinese Government Scholarship – Belt & Road Program is a special scholarship established by the Chinese government to cultivate industry-leading talents and highly skilled professionals for countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.

The Lancang-Mekong Financial and Economic Strategic Talents Leadership Program, hosted by Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, is open to outstanding students from Lancang-Mekong countries, including Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand. The program offers undergraduate and master’s degree education in China to meet the talent development needs under the Belt and Road Initiative and the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation framework.

Applicants who apply for relevant programs at our university and pass the selection process will be recommended to the China Scholarship Council (CSC) on a competitive basis. Final admission is subject to CSC’s evaluation.

Scholarship Information

1. Programs Offered 

Undergraduate Programs(4 years):

  • Finance(Chinese-taught)

  • International Economics and Trade(Chinese-taught)

Master Programs (2 years):

  • Master of Finance (Chinese-taught)

  • Master of International Business (Chinese/English-taught)

  • Master of Public Administration(English-taught)

2 Scholarship Coverage

The scholarship includes:

  • Full tuition waiver

  • Free on-campus accommodation or accommodation subsidy

  • Monthly living allowance:

          Undergraduate students: RMB  2,500/month

          Master students: RMB 3,000/month

  • Comprehensive medical insurance

Note: International travel expenses are not covered.


Eligibility

1. Applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of Laos,  Cambodia, Vietnam, or Thailand

  • Be in good physical and mental health

  • Hold a valid ordinary passport

  • Comply with the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China

*Applicants must not be recipients of any other Chinese government scholarship at the time of application. Those who have applied for other types of Chinese Government Scholarships (e.g., Type B) in the same academic year are not eligible.

2. Academic Requirements

  • Undergraduate  applicants:  High school diploma or equivalent, good academic performance, generally under the age of 25

  • Master’s applicants: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, strong academic background and research potential, generally under the age of 35

3. Language Requirements

  • Undergraduate applicants must take the CSCA examination and obtain valid scores in Chinese (Liberal   Arts) and Mathematics

  • Chinese-taught programs:  HSK Level 5 with a score of at least 180

  • English-taught programs:

    • TOEFL iBT ≥ 80

    • IELTS ≥ 6.5

    • Duolingo ≥ 110

*Applicants graduating in 2026 must obtain their degree certificates before enrollment; otherwise, admission and scholarship will be revoked.


Application Procedures

Step 1: Online Application (May 1 – May 17)

  • Log in to: https://ao.sufe.edu.cn

  • Select your program and choose“Chinese Government Scholarship – Belt & Road Program”

  • Pay the application fee:

    • RMB 830 (Chinese-taught  programs)

    • RMB 1660 (English-taught  programs)

  • Upload required documents

Step 2: Review and Interview (Before May 24)

The university will conduct a document review. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an online interview.

Step 3: CSC Application (Before June 5)

  1. Admission results released by May 27

  2. Recommended candidates must complete CSC application by  May 31

  3. Non-recommended applicants may apply as self-funded students


Application Materials

Applicants must upload scanned copies of required documents through the online system. Hard copies are not required at the application stage.


Admission and Notification

Successful applicants will receive:

  • Admission Notice

  • JW201 Visa Application Form


Important Notes

  • Scholarship recipients may not hold any other scholarships simultaneously.

  • Change of university or  major is not allowed after admission.

  • Failure to register on time will be regarded as forfeiting admission.

  • Original degree certificates must be verified upon registration.
