Key Facts
The International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship offers full scholarships to all citizens (except for the People's Republic of China) to study in one-semester program (2026 fall entry), one-semester program (2027 spring entry), and one-year program (2026 fall entry).
The scholarship covers tuition, medical insurance, on-campus accommodation and a living stipend.
Application
Eligibility
Applicants shall be:
a. non-Chinese citizens.
b. in good physical and mental conditions and with good academic performance and conduct.
c. with no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the University.
d. aspiring to the Chinese language education and related work.
e. aged between 16 and 35 (as of September 1, 2026). Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall not be over 45.
e. independent users of the Chinese language
One-year program (Chinese language) applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 in the HSK Level 3 test and priority will be given to those who have an HSKK test score.
One-semester program (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages) applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 in the HSK Level 3 test and have an HSKK test score.
One-year program (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages) applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 in the HSK Level 3 test, and have an HSKK test score.
Generally, the one-semester program and one-year program do not admit applicants who have received a similar scholarship within the past three years.
Application Period
Application starts from March 15, 2026.
For applicants of programs commencing in September 2026, scholarship application must be completed before May 15, 2026.
For applicants of programs commencing in March 2027, scholarship application must be completed before October 31, 2026.
Application Procedure
There is a two-stage application process which involves applying for entry to the general scholar program at SUFE, and applying separately for the scholarship.
Step 1 Online Registration
Register at scholarship application portal http://cis.chinese.cn and SUFE applicant portal http://ao.sufe.edu.cn
Step 2 Submit Application
-For applicants of programs commencing in September 2026: Submit the General Scholar Program application form on SUFE applicant portal http://ao.sufe.edu.cn before April 30, 2026, and submit the scholarship application at scholarship application portal http://cis.chinese.cn before May 15, 2026.
* SUFE current students who are in the final year/semester can be waived of application fee. Please upload your student ID card scan as the application fee payment proof.
-For applicants of programs commencing in March 2027: Submit the General Scholar Program application form on SUFE applicant portal http://ao.sufe.edu.cn before October 15, 2026, and submit the scholarship application at scholarship application portal http://cis.chinese.cn before October 31, 2026.
* Applicants can track the application status through the application portal.
Step 3 Track Application & Admission Status
Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) that will make the final decisions of scholarship awardees. In general, decisions are rendered about 3 months before the matriculation.
Step 4 Admission & Matriculation
Scholarship winners need to contact SUEF as well as confirm semester arrangements and matriculation procedures.
Application Documents
Please scan and upload the following documents through the application portal.
a. Photo
b. Passport identification page
c. HSK, HSKK score reports (the test score is valid for 2 years since the date of test).
d. One letter of reference by the head of the recommending institutions
If you will choose SUFE as your recommending institution, please contact ices@sufe.edu.cn for the recommendation letter.
Applicants who are working as Chinese language teachers are required to provide proof of employment and a letter of recommendation from the employer.

The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the

The form you submit must:
Include with the signature of the attending physicians
Include with the official stamp of the hospital
Include with a sealed photograph of the applicant
Be written in English, and
Be dated within the last 6 months.

Note:
* Applicants with documents issued in a language other than English and Chinese, will need to submit both the original and certified English/Chinese translation of the documents.
* An applicant under the age of 18 shall submit a commitment letter from of the guardian who lives in China and has been entrusted by the applicant's parent(s).
* Applicants who are working as Chinese language teachers are required to provide proof of employment and a letter of recommendation from the employer.
* Applicants who have won the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate in Chinese Bridge competitions should submit their application documents along with their scholarship certificates to SUFE through International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship applicant portal.
