On the afternoon of March 2nd, the closing ceremony of the 2024 Shanghai Student Games was held at Shanghai High School. This edition of the games featured 125 delegations, including 55 universities, 16 districts (primary and secondary school groups), and 54 secondary vocational schools. A total of 1,397 gold medals were awarded, with 130 event records broken. The total number of participants reached nearly 200,000, the highest in history.
In this quadrennial comprehensive student sports event, which is the highest-level student sports gala in Shanghai, SUFE achieved remarkable success and shone brightly. Our sports teams competed with vigor and determination, winning a total of 17 gold medals, 21 silver medals, and 14 bronze medals. This not only demonstrated the resilience and courage of our students but also showcased the charm and achievements of our university's sports education.
While our athletes were winning medals on the field, our university actively participated in the organizational work of the games, hosting the opening ceremony and several events, including mind sports, golf, and skipping rope.
On September 28, 2024, the 2024 Shanghai Student Games kicked off at our university with the theme "Leap into Youth, Towards the Future!"
On November 23rd, the 2024 Shanghai Student Games Mind Sports competition began. As the most important student mind sports event of the year, it saw a record-high number of participants, with over 2,900 athletes signing up. The age of the athletes covered all educational stages from primary school to university.
On November 29th, the 2024 Shanghai Student Games (University Group) Golf competition was successfully held, providing university students with a platform to showcase their golf skills and competitive level.
On November 30th, the 2024 Shanghai Student Games Skipping Rope competition (University Group) was successfully held at the SUFE‘s Comprehensive Gymnasium. A total of 346 athletes from 17 universities, including Fudan University, East China Normal University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and East China University of Science and Technology, participated in the event.
At the closing ceremony, multiple awards for the 2024 Shanghai Best Sunshine Sports Vibrant Campus Theme Activities were presented. Xu Tao, the Party Secretary of our university, was awarded the "Best Contribution Principal Award" for the 2024 Shanghai Best Sunshine Sports Vibrant Campus.
At the award ceremony, Secretary Xu Tao shared his philosophy on sports education: Strengthening sports education is an important measure to fully implement the China's educational policy and fulfill the fundamental task of cultivating virtue and talent. SUFE has launched the "New Era Sports Education Action Plan" to build a sports education system that involves all staff, covers the entire process, and educates in all aspects. This aims to cultivate the mind, inspire intelligence, promote beauty, and nurture talent through sports, contributing to the construction of a Healthy China.
In addition, SUFE was honored with the "Outstanding Competition Area Award," "Outstanding Organization Award," and "Sportsmanship Award" at the Shanghai Student Games. Vice President Liu Qingsheng represented the university to receive the awards.
