On the afternoon of February 23rd, the 2025 Spring Semester Opening Ceremony and Orientation for International Students at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE) was held at the International Cultural Exchange College. Leaders, faculty, and staff of the International Cultural Exchange College, along with over 100 new students from around the world, participated in the ceremony, which was presided over by Vice Dean Rong Jun.


Dean Dong Jing extended a warm welcome to the international students from across the globe on behalf of the college. She introduced the century-long academic heritage and vibrant campus life of SUFE to the new students, encouraging them to face the challenges of cross-cultural adaptation positively. She noted that through the teacher-student mutual aid platform and cultural practice activities, every student could explore and experience the charm of Chinese culture and achieve unique personal growth. In closing her speech, Dean Dong Jing wished all the international students a smooth life and academic success in the new semester and new environment.

Teacher Xiao Xue, representing the faculty, introduced the rich resources and full support provided by the university for international students in terms of both study and life. She encouraged the international students to embrace China with an open mind, achieve comprehensive development during their academic journey, and gain friendships and growth.

Anna Zaitseva, a student from Russia, shared her experience of learning Chinese in fluent Mandarin. She believes that the best way to learn Chinese is to come to China and communicate in Chinese within the environment. The care and encouragement from her fellow students at SUFE made her learning process less arduous than she had imagined. She encouraged everyone to study diligently and not be afraid of difficulties.

Lara Elisa Metternich, an exchange student from Germany and representative of the new students, expressed her excitement upon arriving in China and the many pleasant surprises that China has brought her. She looks forward to making more friends during her exchange study at SUFE and expects to gain more achievements.

SUFE also invited Officer Ren from the Cultural Security Division of the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau to conduct a legal lecture for the international students through the analysis of typical cases. Officer Ren detailed and emphasized various safety precautions that international students should be aware of during their stay in China and engaged in interactive communication with the students.

Subsequently, Teacher Wang Xin from the Student Affairs Office provided life guidance for the international students, helping them better adapt to and familiarize themselves with life and study in China.

Finally, college teachers introduced academic courses to the students according to their categories.


The opening ceremony and orientation concluded successfully amidst rounds of applause. The journey ahead is as vast as the ocean and as boundless as the starry sky. May every international student weave their own splendid chapter at SUFE!
