Admission Requirements

In order to be considered for admission, you must:

-be a non-Chinese citizen, 18-45 years old, in good health,

-have completed senior high school education or will receive a high school diploma by the summer before matriculation at SUFE in September 2026, AND

-meet the Chinese language requirements through HSK: If your intended major is Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, the entry requirement is HSK 4; applicants of other majors should present HSK 5 certification at the time of application.


Application Timeline

Round 1: January 1, 2026 - March 31, 2026

Please submit your application for first-round evaluation if you plan to apply for Shanghai Government Scholarship.

Round 2: April 1, 2026 - April 30, 2026

Please submit your application for second-round evaluation if you plan to apply for SUFE Scholarship or International Chinese Teacher Scholarship.

Round 3: May 1, 2026 - May 31, 2026

Please submit your application for third-round evaluation if your funding options is self- funded.

 

Application& Admission Process

You need to apply through SUFE Applicant Portal. The steps below will guide you through the process.

1 Choose your major
Make sure you choose a major you're personally interested in and will really enjoy studying!

2 Take the China Scholastic Competency Assessment(CSCA)

It is mandatory to take the CSCA test and get the score report in advance.

All the applicants, no matter which major you apply for, must sit the Math test. You can choose either Chinese test or English test.

Humanities Chinese test result is not required if your intended major is Teaching Chinese to speakers of Other Languages. Applicants of other majors must take Humanities Chinese test.

Important: It is advisable to take the CSCA test at an early date. Please check test dates and content at www.csca.cn and sign up for the test(s). The CSCA tests are designed to provide an objective measure of a student's proficiency in core subjects such as Math, Chinese language, and the test scores play a crucial role in the admission decision making process.


3 Remit the non-refundable application fee (CNY830 or the equivalent in foreign currency)

Only bank transfer is accepted.  

If payment is made in China, please fill in with payee's information in with payee's information in Chinese.

* Any handling fees or telegraph fees required for cross-border payment/inter-bank transaction shall be borne by the payer.

* SUFE current students who are in the final year/semester can application fee waiver. Please upload your student ID card scan as the application fee payment proof.


4 Register and submit application through SUFE Applicant Portal

Application must be made online at http://ao.sufe.edu.cn. Check application documents

After you submit your application through the Applicant Portal, you'll receive an email confirmation. To access the most up-to-date application status, you should log into the Applicant Portal with the username and password you used to create your applicant account. Please also check regularly the email address with which you create for an account at the Applicant Portal.


5 Interview
Shortlisted students will be invited for interviews between April and June*. Interviews help our Admissions Officers to get to know you and your motivations for applying to SUFE; they contribute to our assessment of your academic potential and suitability for your chosen major, while giving you the opportunity to expand on the written elements of your application. 

* Admission Office will send interview schedule via email.


6 Our decision
Following the assessment of your application, there are two possible outcomes.

A. You' re made an offer.

B. Your application is unsuccessful. 

Admission Office will advise you of our decision on month after the interview. 

Most importantly, the Applicant Portal is where you'll view the admissions decision. Applicants will receive an email reminding them to check their portal and view their decision once the decisions are released. When you log in, you'll see a crimson-colored banner with Admitted/Not Admitted. Click on that banner to view more details.


Those who have been offered a place should confirm whether to not accept the offer before June 30, 2026 via SUFE Applicant Portal.

Admission documents (admission letter, JW202 Form) will be sent out in July 2026.
