On the afternoon of September 1st, the 2023 Fall International Student Orientation and Matriculation Ceremony was held at SUFE. The ceremony was attended by the leadership and some faculty of the International Cultural Exchange School, along with over 200 freshmen from around the world. The ceremony was hosted by Rong Jun, Deputy Dean of the school.
After the warm-up video, Deputy Dean Rong Jun extended a warm welcome to all the international students present and introduced them to the faculty of the various departments within the school to help the new students familiarize themselves quickly.
Dean Dong Jing then delivered a welcome address. In her speech, she welcomed new international students from around the world, congratulating them for becoming part of this international family at SUFE. She also introduced the university's long history, first-class disciplines, and international collaboration. She encouraged the freshmen to be brave, perseverant, and wise, to overcome difficulties, adapt to life in China, and actively understand and integrate into Chinese culture; to bediligent, abide by academic norms, and continuously progress in their studies; and to collaborate, explore new knowledge, enhance understanding, and foster friendships.
Wang Liansheng, speaking as a faculty representative, advised the students on "Character Building", "Study Skills", and "Win-Win Cooperation". He hopes that everyone will learn from each other, and wishes every international student a happy life at SUFE.
Chen Heyuan, President of the International Students Society and a Malaysian, welcomed the new students on behalf of all international students at the university. He suggested, as a senior, to seek help from teachers, ISS officials, and compatriots, to quickly adapt and integrate into the university and into China; to find suitable study methods; to participate in more extra-curricular activities to enhance comprehensive capabilities; and to manage time efficiently. Finally, he invited everyone to actively participate in the International Students Society to better adapt to life at the university.
Li Xiaolong, a new student from Russia, spoke on "Why I Chose the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics", expressing his love for the city of Shanghai and his aspirations for future academic and life experiences, while also expressing gratitude towards the university.
Subsequently, the school organized different orientation activities for various categories of international students for better results so that such students can quickly adapt to life at the university.
With resounding applause, the 2023 Fall International Student Orientation and Matriculation Ceremony at SUFE came to a successful close. For the newly-arrived international students, this marks a new beginning in their lives, and everyone looks forward to them becoming better versions of themselves.
