On the afternoon of October 10th,the finals of the 2023 Soccer Freshman Cup at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE) took place at the Wudong Sports Field. The competing teams were from the International Cultural Exchange School and the School of Economics. After a 40-minute intense match, our school won the championship with a resounding scoreline of 7:0.
In this Freshman Cup, the team from our school consisted of 10 international students on undergraduate, postgraduate and exchange programmes, from 8 countries including Kenya, Costa Rica, Malawi, Malaysia, Myanmar, Spain, Switzerland, and South Korea. Despite language and cultural barriers, these students teamed up defeated the School of Finance by 4:2 and the School of Statistics by 3:0 during the group competition. In the more intense knockout competition, they won 9:2 against the School of Humanities and 6:0 against the School of Accounting.
Captain Li Kaiwu, MIB student of class 2023 from Myanmar, said: "The moment we won, I felt a huge burden lifted. After three years, the championship finally returned to our school. I want to thank every member of our team and all those who have supported us. Without the efforts by our players on the field and the cheering from the spectators, winning the championship would have been impossible. This competition deepened the friendship among students from our school. We overcame language barriers and worked for the same goal on the soccer field. The moment the final whistle blew and we embraced each other in celebration. All our efforts and the coach guidance paid off. I firmly believe that with further training and coordination among ourselves, we will have better performance in future competitions."
Our school has always attached great importance to the activities of international students. Through these events, the school aims to integrate students from different countries and to facilitate exchanges between Chinese and international students. At the same time, importance is also placed on the moral, intellectual, and physical education. Going forward, the school plans to continue this effort through various activities such as social practices, sports events, joint team-building activities, and the "Lanyuan Cup," to improve the quality of talent cultivation for international students.
