On 21 October, the autumn Chinese language training programme for Saint Paul's School, Thailand, drew to a successful close. During the programme, the visiting teachers and students took part in a wide range of immersive Chinese language courses, which systematically consolidated their command of the language, gave them first-hand insight into the vigorous momentum of China's social and economic development, and brought them into close contact with the distinctive appeal of fine traditional Chinese culture.

In class, the students engaged in lively interaction, studying spoken and written Chinese with great care. In a relaxed and congenial learning environment, their practical command of the language improved markedly, and their knowledge and understanding of China deepened further.

At the closing ceremony, Kuang Xin, Head of the Admissions Section of the College, together with faculty representatives Wang Liansheng and Guo Guang, reviewed the students' learning over the course of the programme. They gave full recognition to the students' enthusiasm for learning and their excellent approach to study, and expressed the hope that the students would continue to contribute to cultural exchange and educational cooperation between China and Thailand.

Ms. Lin Lidie, the teacher leading the Thai delegation, expressed her gratitude to the College for its meticulous and thorough organisation. She remarked that the programme had given all the students a rewarding and substantive exchange experience.

A student representative also shared his reflections on and gains from the programme — from being reluctant to speak to expressing himself with confidence, and from unfamiliarity to a first understanding of Chinese culture. He said that this short period of study had improved his Chinese proficiency and broadened his horizons.

The programme concluded successfully, with the students gaining a great deal from both their language study and their cultural experience. The College of International Cultural Exchange will continue to refine the design of short-term programmes in China, offering more teachers and students from overseas a high-quality experience of study and exchange.
